INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WAND) - March Madness is all about matchups.

And Maryland has been Illinois basketball's kryptonite.

Just like their matchup in January, the Terrapins got the best of the Illini in just about every facet of the game in a 88-65 rout.

Maryland's 57 first half points were the most the Illini allowed since giving up 61 to Iowa in the 2018 Big Ten Tournament.

Illinois struggled to contain Maryland's Rodney Rice. The sophomore guard put in 26 points (7-9 3PT).

Big Ten Freshman of the Year Derik Queen was a problem inside the paint. Queen added 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Kasparas Jakucionis secured his fifth double-double this season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but the freshman guard also turned the ball over six times.

Illinois had 17 turnovers as a team and shot just 20% from three-point range.

The Illini now have some time to regroup as they wait for Selection Sunday to see who and where they will play in the NCAA Tournament.
