A one-year-old baby girl from Bangladesh underwent a surgery at MGM Healthcare to remove a tumour in the brain.
Surgeons removed a large tumour near the brain stem in a high-risk procedure, which was completed without complications. The baby was discharged after two weeks in the intensive care unit. She has now gained better balance and independence, and she is on track to leading a normal life, an official release said.
In this case, the tumour was located on the membranes near the medulla, which is rare and can affect consciousness, balance, coordination, and swallowing. The baby experienced repeated vomiting since seven months of age, along with facial paralysis, delayed motor skills, reduced appetite, drowsiness, and dehydration upon admission, Roopesh Kumar, director of neurosurgery, MGM Healthcare, who led the surgical team, said.
